flashes are not that hard to use if you have a way to diffuse the light (softbox, umbrella, or anything that might be useful) and a digi cam : P though a photometer could be of use as well, I'm still having trouble controlling the amount and direction of light

The expression, gesture and light create and image and even a bit of a story. The figure in this story looks as though she is staring into that which she hates most before she dies and the world closes over her. The use of the arm as a lead for the eye is very effective in bringing focus to the face. A very well done photograph.
